2× tournament champion (Stanford Invitational, Harvard National Speech & Debate Tournament) with 900+ NSDA Honor Society points across 50+ tournaments — now teaching the next generation to find their voice.

This past summer, I designed and taught a free two-week Summer Speech & Writing Camp for incoming 5th and 6th graders. Drawing on my own background in competitive speech and debate, I built a curriculum from scratch covering three core skills:

Argument Essay Writing
Helping students structure a clear thesis, build supporting evidence, and write persuasively.

SPAR Debate (Spontaneous Argumentation)
Teaching students to think on their feet, construct a case quickly, and respond to counterarguments.

Impromptu Speaking
Building confidence and clarity when speaking without prepared notes.

I planned every lesson, created all teaching materials, ran daily sessions, and gave individual feedback on each student's writing and speaking. Beyond teaching the material, I wanted to give younger students the kind of early exposure to argument and communication skills that shaped who I am as a writer and speaker.

My Approach

Teaching argument and speech isn't just about winning tournaments — it's about helping a student raise their hand in class, explain their reasoning in a group project, or write a persuasive essay with confidence. My sessions are built around three things competing myself taught me: structure, quick thinking, and clear communication. I've taught in English and Mandarin, and through cross-cultural programs connecting students in Taiwan and California — because finding your voice shouldn't depend on which language you're speaking.
